Haruru Falls Tour – Half Day

Come and join us on our sea kayak tours in Bay of Islands, up to the famous Haruru Falls. This tour is perfect for groups of families and friends or those just a little short on time. We start this trip right on the beach in Waitangi. Haruru means “big noise” and we will get you right underneath these magic horseshoe-shaped falls to feel their full power. The river is steeped with history and is a haven for nesting birds. Also we mainly try and operate around the high tide to give us the best opportunity to paddle through the mystical mangrove forests that line the river.

At the departure point, we will kit you out in our modern sea kayaks and get you familiar with all the gear. Then we set out on our sea kayaking adventure.

We use top of the line sea kayaks with rudders and spray skirts to keep water out of the kayak. After a little instruction we will head off up the river exploring the mangrove forests on our way to the falls.
As we go we can spot nesting birds and old Māori Pa sites. When we get to the waterfall, this is where we can really have some fun!

Here we can get up close to the falls, get a few photos and for the more adventurous take a plunge under the falls. The Waitangi River is rich with history and Māori legend as your guide will tell you on the way.

After a paddle under the falls we will take a few photos and get out of the kayaks for a little before our paddle back down the river to where we started.
